cheater’s creme anglaise
Not a chocolate lover? (Gasp!) Here’s my favorite vanilla dessert sauce cheat. Vanilla ice cream is made with milk, cream, egg yolks, sugar and vanilla. Creme Anglaise is made with milk, cream, egg yolks, sugar and vanilla. Do you see where I am going with this? For a quick, delicious Cheater’s Creme Anglaise, melt a cup or so of your favorite vanilla ice cream in the fridge for a few hours, and tell nobody while you drizzle it over a dessert.

That’s just downright brilliant!! Happy Valentine’s day!
Strangely, as I read this, Ina Garten is making Creme Anglaise on TV. Just melt some vanilla ice cream, Ina!
You are a genius!
You’re the best–thanks for sharing!
LOL I love this. I want to try to make a real creme anglaise at some point just so I can say I did it, but after that, this tip will probably be my default :)
Alicia and I must have been watching the same show. Yes, Ina was making Creme Anglaise, and my mouth was watering the whole time…
Love your short-cut idea of melting vanilla ice cream. It’s so simple, I probably never would have thought of it! Funny thing is, I believe Ina was using a portion of her homemade Creme Anglaise to make ice cream with (if I remember correctly.) Same thought, different way of going about it! And you know what? It’s all good (and delicious!)
Heh heh. I love it. Wicked.
