drops, pinches and dashes
In perhaps my most persnickety tip yet, did you know that when a recipe calls for a drop, pinch or dash of an ingredient, this can be translated into an actual measurement? 60 drops yields one teaspoon, 1 dash is equal to 1/16 of a teaspoon and 1 pinch is 1/8 of a teaspoon. Now, try to get your head around the fact that someone, somewhere actually took the time to measure these things out.

Great translations! For me, a “pinch of salt” is “three pinches and a shake”. With that math, I never go wrong.
By the way, your Tip section is awesome. If you’re looking for tip ideas down the road, how about: baking substitutions for when you’re missing that one ingredient; dry and wet measurements; what to do with the rest of the X (coconut, rice vinegar, sesame oil, etcetera) when you’ve bought a huge container for a recipe; high- and low- altitude bake times; dry- and humid-day effects of baking…I’d love to know any or all of these. thanks for the tips so far.
A tip to go with your tip - I saw this the other day whilst out shopping. I don’t know if they ship to the US but if you want one I don’t mind posting one over! http://www.cookware.co.uk/shop?code=2109
