blue steel
Along with some other cocoa fiends, I created a hot chocolate recipe that is up over at Four Weeks Magazine right now. It was an interesting process as I’m really a plain, old-school cocoa kinda girl, but I tried to think of what I would do if I really wanted to glam it up. One thing led to another we ended up with two sinfully rotund glasses of something akin to an orange mocha frappucino hot cocoa, along with a pile of orangettes. Somehow, I couldn’t make one without the other though I didn’t actually like the idea of eating them together. This drink needs some biscotti and an old movie. And come to think of it, so do I.

Cocoa is SO delicious and perfect on our cold Minnesota December days. Check out the post “Oh those memes” on my site. Don’t forget to read to the very end!
Cute picture you chose for Four Weeks Magazine website! Sounds good. Definitely love Bailey’s in my hot chocolate, something I read from your site maybe last year or the year before!
Mmmmm yum. I have a hard time with sweet drinks that are also served hot. Don’t get me wrong – I lovelovelovelove sweet things, but I kind of need them cold…even in the dead of winter at 10degrF, I prefer my coffee or anything else iced. (It probably comes from growing up in the land of eternal heat, Arizona, where everything tastes better cold) But now I want to try this hot chocolate recipe iced. It looks so yummy!!
Yum! I´m gonna have to give this one a try, but first of all, I need to buy some Bailey´s (ahhh, the sacrifices). The chai-chocolate one by another blogger also sounds great, then again, chai tea is one of my current obsessions.
Are you kidding me! That sounds so fantastic – I’m adding “buy Bailey’s” to my list of lunchtime tasks. Yum!
I knew I loved your blog but the Zoolander references put it over the top! ;) and that hot cocoa recipe looks decadent.
I enjoy your photography. Plus, how can you go wrong with chocolate!
i am with katie…thanks for the zoolander reference, and thanks for the chocolate.
I had a hankering for some hot chocolate the other night and had found this recipe a few days before. I warn you though, it’s not for the faint of heart. There is a reason it says to serve in demitasse cups. I didn’t know you could get a hangover from chocolate.

If you use a high cocoa percentage chocolate (I used Valhrona 71%), it might behoove one to add a little more sugar too. Also I used 2% milk and it seemed to work just fine.
Sadness! The Four Weeks mag site seems to have gone the way of the dodo. You didn’t happen to keep a copy of the recipe on hand? I could use a great hot cocoa recipe to savor the last (hopeful) days of winter!
i want the recipe, too! post it here, pretty please! its all rainy and disgusting here… well, really now, you’re in NYC, too, so we’re equally miserable with this weather! and my rainboots are leaking!
The recipe isn’t there! Could you give us a recipe to use? I’d love a great homemade hot chocolate recipe.
I arrived late to the party and no hot chocolate for me. Sadly, like the others indicated, the recipe is not accessible anymore. Could you be so kind to re-post it?
